Happy Monday!

Good golly, we are nearly needing to go to town in a boat around here...it has rained and rained, and rained some more!

I made a card over the weekend to enter into a sketch challenge at Freshly Made Sketches. I'm sliding it in just in the nick of time, as the challenge ends tomorrow afternoon!

If ya'll have followed me for more than a day or so, you know that I'm a rebel - I simply 'need' to flip sketches! Lol... Anyway, here is what I made - hope you like it!

I used Penny Black's Melody Makers and Gina K. Designs Scripty Sayings 2 for this card. All the coloring is with Copic Markers.

Miss You

Woo Hoo - Happy Weekend!

It's amazing how excited I get (I am retired, after all) when a weekend 

rolls around - just habit I guess!

Here's another card for the Guest Designer Challenge at Stamp TV. There's still time for YOU to enter!
The mask was a strip of masking paper, laid on the diagonal of the card.  Stamping was done, both above and below the masked strip.  After removing the strip, 2 lines were drawn with my Zig pen, and colored between the lines with the color of the flower centers.
It was a perfectly flat, one-layered beauty, until.....(to be continued).

A couple of years ago, Melanie Muenchinger created 'Stately Flowers 2' for Gina K. Designs.
This beautiful set features flowers of Alabama, Nebraska, Kentucky, and Missouri.

I am a Missourian, and a HUGE fan of Melanie's flower and basket sets.  I was thrilled
beyond words, when Melanie asked me to guest design this set for her!
This is still one of my favorite 'go-to' sets when I need a pretty card.

The sentiment is from another fun set that I love - 'Stamp it Big! 2' by my friend Carolyn King.
Cammie (Carolyn) is a talented designer for Gina, and I love her happy creations!

Now....continuing on!  If you look really close, you will see that my one-layer creation is a one layer card with three popped up 'buds'.  Why?  Ha ha...my green markers had minds of their own, and before I knew what was happening, they had colored three flower buds green!  Imagine....
In case you still haven't spotted the popped up buds, here's a close up with some hints!

Tee hee...  When I was a brand new stamper, I went to a class taught by a lady named Shirley, who is now one of my dearest friends.  At my first class, she said 'there are no mistakes in stamping - only creative opportunities'.  So, Shirley - how do you like this creative opportunity???

We have a memorial to attend tomorrow for a very special and dear aunt of mine.
Heaven certainly gained a wonderful new angel, but we will miss her so much.

Good morning and Happy Friday!

Here are two more cards for the Gina K. Designs guest designer challenge for June - the challenge is to use masking techniques.

For this first card, the center image was stamped on the cardstock center, and then again on masking paper. The mask was cut out, and laid over the center image.  The image was then stamped again on the left and right, stamping right over top of the masked butterfly.  When the mask is removed, it appears that the center butterfly is flying in front of the others.  To ink, each color was applied with small sponge daubers, directly to the stamp.  I huffed to remoisten the ink, and stamped.

Supplies:  Gina K. Designs Pure Luxury White Cardstock and 'Hope is Faith' Stamp Set, Tim Holtz Distress Inks: Dusty Concord, Wild Honey, Rusty Hinge

For this card, a strip of masking tape was put down directly on the cardstock, at the top and the bottom, masking the areas that were NOT going to get inked.

Using Peeled Paint Distress ink, the cardstock was sponged in between the two pieces of mask.

Once sponged, the images were stamped, and the focal panel was matted with black, and mounted onto the card front. Easy peasy!

Sending Birthday Wishes

Hello!

The second challenge for the guest designer spot is posted at StampTV, and I'm going to give it a shot!

The challenge is to use a mask.

Here's my first card for the challenge:

Supplies:  Gina K. Designs 'The Northwoods' by Theresa Momber, Tim Holtz Distress Inks, Gina K. Designs Pure Luxury White Cardstock, Dimensional Foam (Michael's).

To begin, a circle was punched out of the masking paper, and placed on the cardstock.  Squeezed Lemonade ink was daubered into the circle, and the outer mask was then removed.  The circle mask was added, and I then began using Peeled Paint, Old Paper, and Tumbled Glass to create the background.

Once the background was finished, the forward most trees in the lower left and right hand corners were stamped with "Peeled Paint". I made a mask of  each tree, cut them out, and placed them over the stamped trees. The next step was to stamp directly onto the mask with each tree, using "Old Paper".  Each time I stamped, I first sponge daubered a bit of "Rusty Hinge" on the tree trunks.
The two deer were stamped in "Rusty Hinge" also.

This is such a lovely stamp set, that I debated on embellishments, finally deciding to let the focal panel speak for itself.  The panel was placed on the card front with dimensional squares.

Lined Envelope Project - Gina K. Designs

Hello!

You may recall a few months ago, when I tried out for a guest designer spot on StampTV for Gina K. Designs.  Well, I didn't make it that month, and things have been a bit too hectic to try again, until now.

The challenge for the June Guest Designer contest, is to make a matching lined envelope to go with your card, following Gina's video.  I used a darling stamp set by Tami Mayberry 'Lighthearted Wishes', and some digital papers 'Double Dots & Plaids', also by Tami.  Here's what I came up with:

Used my Perfect Papercrafting Rulers to get the beautiful, straight mats!  Check out my sidebar for full details!

Designs Pure Luxury White CS, Sponge Daubers, Stampendous White Embossing Powder, Heat Gun, Perfect Layers Rulers (see sidebar for details!)

Love this technique!  The challenge calls for GKD stamps, and that you follow Gina's chosen technique - this challenge, the technique is Color on Color Emboss Resist.  Isn't it pretty?  I'll be using it more, for sure! You have until Friday to enter the challenge at Stamp TV!!!

A Quick Tutorial...

Good morning!

I had some folks comment, and emailme, asking how to create the butterfly card that I posted yesterday, so I decided to make another card, taking photos along the way. I apologize for the photos. Should have put something under the project pieces, so that the lights above wouldn't reflect.

1. Create a card base, 

a darker colored mat (a shade smaller than the card base), 

and a focal panel (a shade smaller than the mat).

2.  On separate scraps of white cardstock, stamp and color your image.  As you can see, I was very messy!  No worries about staying in the lines :)

3. Fussy cut your image.

4. Stamp sentiment, and adhere your stamped images, wherever you like.

5.  Trim the images, where they overhang the sides of your focal panel.

6. Place focal panel inside embossing folder.  I chose the Stampin' Up! Square Lattice, as it's a tight, woven pattern.  My goal was for the panel to look a bit like fabric.

7. Close folder, and run through your embossing machine.

8.  Open folder, and say "OOOOH.....AAAAAHHHHH...."!

9. Adhere panel to mat.  Voila!

Now, if you are not a coloring addict, like I am, you could do this very same technique, using ready made images, punched shapes, etc.!!!  Possibilities are endless.

Only God...

Hello!

Stamp: Gina K. Designs "Only God" Cardstock: Colorbok Black, & White, DP: from a DCWV Stack, Ink: Gina K. Designs (yummy, isn't it?) Perfect Layers Tools for perfect borders (see sidebar for details).

I don't often totally CASE (copy and steal everything) an entire project! Usually, I just CASE something about the project - the layout, or the colors, you know what I mean, because, we've all done it!

However, I needed a really quick and nice card for a gentleman at church, and the first

thing that came to mind was a card that Gina Krupsky had shown on StampTV

a couple of weeks ago.

Here is Gina's card!  When I look at them together, I realize I needed another layer between the DP and the card base, AND....my ribbon was too stinkin' skinny!  lol.....Funny what you see long after the card is

in the mail!

This stamp, Only God, is one of the new releases at Gina K. Designs. Beautiful, isn't it?

My nice straight layers were made using my Perfect Layers Rulers (see details on my sidebar).

Poster Board Sentiments

Hello!

We needed to send a card to a gentleman at church, and my 'manly' stash was WAY down.

I decided to try out my new Gina K. Designs set, Poster Board Sentiments. 

Here it is with the flap open. I was careful to write our message on the left side of the card, so that only the ivory flap showed when closed.

I think I will probably use this set a lot!  Next on my GKD wish list is Cammie's set with the

big words - really, really, REALLY want that one!

What Have I Been Up To?

Howdy!

So, I'm back on my feet, but haven't been here much this week.  "What have I been up to?", you ask...

I've been busy, busy busy, watching videos from many of you fabulous crafters!

...Trying to get some ideas for creating a set of tile coasters.

No, I realize this is not tile coasters.  I've also been playing with Gelato's!

A few weeks ago, my wonderful friend, Dawn, knew I was looking for some to experiment with, and sent me a couple to try.  What fun!  I had seen a video by Penny Black & Jill Foster, (PBJ) where they used Gelato's on a gorgeous wooden bird, and when I saw this deer at Michael's this summer, I had to have it.

Used two shades of blue Gelato's and one silver.  Embossed with white Stampendous EP, using Gina K. Designs "The Magic of Christmas" snowflakes.  Rubbed Gelato's onto wooden deer (Michael's) using my fingers. What fun!!!

NOW.....on to the tiles!

I have this beautiful stamp set "Quiet Waters" from Our Daily Bread Designs, and thought that it would make a lovely set of tile coasters.  Again, watching a PBJ Video, I learned that I could stamp on them with my Staz-On, and color them with Copic Markers.  Yup, you heard that right!  After heat setting them with my heat gun for a good long while, I dunked them, soaked them, washed them, scrubbed them, wiped them with a towel, etc., and the color didn't even budge.  To be safe, I did put a coat of spray sealer on each tile.  Hopefully, it will be permanent.

My photos really have a red glow to them - so sorry!  They are a pretty rich brown in real life...

I made a set of four, glued on some felt pads, and was so lucky to have a wonderful friend, Shirley, whose wonderful DH is a master wood worker.  He just 'happened' to have a 'Coaster Holder' all made up that fit my coasters perfectly!  He makes racks for Stickles, holders for heat guns, coaster racks, bow-maker's, etc...

What a fun gift this will be.  They are going in the mail tomorrow morning to someone very very special!  Hope he likes them :)

Okay, dear friends - that's what I've been up to!  Now, I must go create for some DT deadlines - if I don't, I might just get fired...

Let Your Dreams Take Flight...

Good morning!

Welcome to the Repeat Impressions What If Wednesday Sketch Challenge #A812!   Wendy has once again provided us with a fun sketch to work with.  I couldn't resist using the hot air balloons with this one!

I chose to use one of the sentiments and images from the 9100 series that was released recently. The balloons were paperpieced with the cute dotty cardstock from Amuse. Perfect Layers Tools were used for my nice straight mats.

It's Those 'Dots' Again!

Howdy folks!  

So...does anyone else out there keep thinking that today is Monday?  Sheesh!  

I am a creature of HABIT, and when DH is home on a Wednesday, it scrambles my brain.  

Hope that your holiday was enjoyable.  Ours was very quiet!

I'm on my way to get a much needed haircut, but wanted to share this card with you first.  Yup, it's those dots again.  Can't help myself - I love them!  This card was actually created for a challenge at Stamp TV, but I missed it....card was done several days in advance, but didn't get posted.  

As always, I'm a day late and a few dollar short :)

 The challenge was to use my favorite GKD rose.  When I went through my stamps, I only had ONE stamp with a rose on it, so voila!  No decisions here - just used what I had!

Roses...

Hi there!

Hope that you are all enjoying your weekend.  I have received 3 emails lately, asking me why I never post cards that have been published on my blog.  Well, I can only say "duh".  I just haven't thought to do so!  So, without further ado, or jabber, here are the cards that were in the July issue of CardMaker.

                                                             About the photo cards.....

I am absolutely NOT a photograper, so when the submission call came out for photo cards, I was bummed. What to do, what to do?  Then it hit me that our DD is a fabulous photographer!  She has had some of her works published, and loves to take photos.  The photo on these cards was taken by her.  She's been lucky enough to have worked in both the Phipps and Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, where beautiful flowers are in abundance, and this was just one example.  

I had originally submitted the blue card, with the black and white photo, and the editors asked me to make a sepia, and a full color card as well, so that is what you see here.

Also in this issue was a cheerful birthday card on page 39.  This call was for a rainbow color scheme. Unfortunately, it appears that I forgot to save a photo! Tee hee...

Girl Talk

Happy mail is so much fun...

On a recent trip to the mailbox, an adorable stamp set from Gina K. Designs was waiting for me, thanks to my recent publication in CardMaker Magazine (my favorite!) using GKD stamps!  I got to choose a free set, and I chose Tami Mayberry's Girl Talk.  You will be seeing a lot more of this set here.  Thanks Tami for a fun set, and thanks Gina K. for recognizing our publications!  (Nope, wasn't paid to say that!!!)
