Designer's Choice Challenge at The House that Stamps Built

Happy New Year, everyone!

This is my third post today - if you are looking for my 2 Crafty Critter Crazies post, or my Seasons Givings post, scroll up (or down?) to find it!!

Wow...a new year, a new decade!  And of course, a new challenge at 'The House'!

It's time for another Repeat Impressions Stamps challenge at The House that Stamps Built, and we have a new Designer’s Choice Challenge for you. Shirley is our hostess for the month, and has challenged us all to use our RI stamps to bring back a childhood memory! Please join us in our challenge, and create something using the theme: "Create a card using an image that brings back a childhood memory.".

This was an easy one for me. We grew up a bit on the poorer side, so most of our fun was created by just being outside and doing 'things'. One of the things I loved most about childhood in Chicago was ice skating!

Here's what I made using these Repeat Impressions Stamps:

I did a bit of coloring with Copic markers, added some gel pen dots on hat and scarf, fussy cut the image, and adhered a die cut of metallic silver (ice rink, right?) at the base of the image.  For the card base, I found a fun border die, and stenciled a pattern in the background. Popped up the image and voila!

This was a fun challenge - thanks Shirley!!!

 And now it’s your turn!
We hope you will create a card that has a focus on today’s DCC theme, and enter it in our challenge at The House that Stamps Built!  Remember, your creation does not have to be made with Repeat Impressions stamps, but if you would like to include our designs we would love to see them!  Plus, there’s an added bonus… you will get an additional entry in our random.org drawing for using our stamps in your submissions!
One lucky person this month will win a $25 Repeat Impressions Gift Certificate!

Check out my sidebar - grab the code to save money on your RI orders!

Now, it's time to see what my DT friends have created!

  2. What a fun winter card you've created, Patti! Most of my childhood was spent outside as well...so many happy memories playing all sorts of things with my sister.

  3. Beautiful card and memory, like the stenciling in the background. I did not know you grew up in Chicago. Best wishes for 2020!

  4. Such a cute skating snowman. Talented it appears just like the lady who made him into this card. I love it and we grew up with outdoor activities too but we never did learn to ice skate. Lots of sledding though.

  6. Oh what a fun card - and I would not of thought of you as ice skating, although I did as a kid, on the neighbors pond. Love all the detail on your card and the ice rink is perfect. Was so much fun to read every ones memories.

  7. What a fun card and memory. We had lots of fun in the winter (although, it really doesn't snow all that often in WA) but when it did - wow! Super fun challenge.

  8. Your card is so great. I love how you have attended to all the little details--like the skating rink. We skated a lot as kids, too. We had a slough right below our house, and the fire department would flood it with water after it froze over to give us a nice, smooth surface to skate on. Fun days!

  10. Oh wow that little skating bear is so adorable! I love your card design and how fun to have this connect with a childhood memory of ice skating in Chicago! Maybe someday I might be able to do that...better make that sooner than later!! LOL!! Fun story and card my friend! Thanks for sharing!

  13. Heee what a fab fun card Patti, that's such a brilliant snowman! We were the same, we didn't have much (but didn't know it!) and learned how to make our own fun and games!

  14. Oh, Patti, this snowman is just soooo cute! I have only a few memories associated with winter snow and ice since we didn't live in an area that had either of those things. But I do remember spending occasional weekends during the winter at my grandfather's mountain cabin where we got to have snowball fights. :-D
BTW, there's a problem with the linky tool on the THTSB site for this challenge. I left my entrie(s) in the comments section because the link up tool just kept freezing up. Have tried to get that message through to someone but am not sure anyone over there is checking comments. :-D

  15. This is such a fun card, Patti. What a wonderful childhood memory. I grew up spending my Christmases at the beach. My card would have to involve palm trees, sand, sea and perhaps a surfing Santa :-) Thank you for sharing your card and a piece of your childhood!
    Big hugs,
